Opposition pans Media Council’s 2011 report

November 14, 2012

Media Council member Tamás Kollar reportedly drew criticism from opposition MPs when he presented the Council’s annual report to Parliament on November 13. According to Mediajogfigyelő, Kollar’s presentation focused on statistics and numbers but did not cover the controversial new media law or its consequences. Socialist Party MP László Mandur criticized the report for providing insufficient information about the activities of the Media Services and Asset Management Fund (MTVA) – which he noted recently sought to borrow more than HUF 60 billion to expand its facilities – and added that the report ignores the controversy caused by the new media law and the activities of the Media Council. Representatives of the opposition Jobbik and LMP parties also expressed criticism of the report and the Council’s activities.
