CMDS Contributed to a New Study Examining Risks to Media Pluralism in 9 EU Countries
The report was published this month by the Centre for Media Pluralism and Freedom (CMPF) at the European University Institute in Florence. The CMDS team was led by Center researcher Amy Brouillette, together with media and legal experts Peter Bajomi Lazar, Judith Bayer and Borbala Toth. CMDS conducted the country case study for Hungary, and the analysis showed Hungary as a 'high risk' for media pluralism, alongside Italy and Greece.
The report is part of European Commission's ongoing Media Pluralism Monitor (MPM) project that aims to develop a set of common indices to measure risks to media pluralism across all EU-member states. The purpose of the pilot study was to test and improve the indicators by implementing the MPI in nine EU countries.
CMDS has been a core partner in the MPM project since 2009, as one of three academic institutes to develop the original set of indicators, along with ICRI (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) and MMTC (Jönköping International Business School), and Ernst & Young Belgium.
