Dragomir Appointed to Council of Europe Committee
Marius Dragomir, Director of the Center for Media, Data and Society (CMDS) has been appointed as a member of the Committee of Experts on Media Environment and Reform (MSI-REF) of the Council of Europe.
Under the supervision of the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society (CDMSI), drawing upon the existing Council of Europe standards and the relevant case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, the MSI-REF will prepare a standard-setting proposal on election communication and media coverage of electoral campaigns.
The Committee will also work on guiding principles for media and communication governance in order to address the shift from established channels to social networks and of related risks (manipulation of public opinion, lack of public trust, information disorder).
The Committee is composed of 13 members, comprising seven representatives of EU Member States, designated by the CDMSI, and six independent experts, appointed by the Secretary General with recognized expertise in the fields of freedom of expression and media policy online and off-line.
Marius Dragomir, Director of CMDS, has been appointed to the Committee as one of the independent experts. “The work of the Council of Europe in the media is incredibly important, especially today when the media and communication field needs standards and good practices,” he said after the appointment.
