Parmar Selected Co-Rapporteur of Council of Europe Committee

We are happy to announce that our Fellow, Sejal Parmar was selected a Co-Rapporteur of the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on Combating Hate Speech ADI/MSI-DIS at its first meeting, which took place on 29 and 30 September.

The Committee of Experts is mandated to prepare a draft Recommendation on a comprehensive approach to addressing hate speech within a human rights framework. This recommendation will be adopted by the Committee of Ministers and will provide non-binding guidance for Council of Europe Member States. It will build on the relevant case-law of the European Court of Human Rights and will pay special attention to the online environment where most of today’s hate speech can be found.

The Committee may also prepare other practical tools for Member States and other relevant stakeholders.
