Parthasarathi and Agarwal on Media Regulation in India
“India’s hybrid media milieu provides a plentiful turf to engage with the regulatory framework marking the worlds of digital journalism,” our Fellow Vibodh Parthasarathi and Simran Agarwal, co-authors of the Media Influence Matrix: India report wrote in their article Rein and Laissez Faire: The Dual Personality of Media Regulation in India, published by Digital Journalism.
According to the article, the provisions and silences in inherited regulatory frameworks are spilling over to scar digital journalism, but challenges triggered by new actors and dynamics are characterizing digital journalism. The article “brings out two tendencies marking the regulatory framework of digital journalism, one ridden with control and the other with laissez faire.”
