Court awards Klubrádió 92.9 MHz frequency
An appeals court last week upheld a lower court ruling that awarded Klubrádió the 92.9 MHz frequency, which the station has been fighting for broadcasts
rights to since 2010. Hungary’s former media regulator, ORTT, awarded Klubrádió won the frequency in April 2010 but did not sign the contract before the body was dissolved by the new media laws. After it was formed, the Media Council refused to sign the contract on grounds that the station could not operate on two frequencies within the same broadcasting zone, according to the media law. At the time, Klubrádió was airing on its 93.5 MHz frequency, which the station said it would give up once it was legally cleared to broadcast on the 92.9 channel, which the station prefers because it carries no broadcasting fee. In November, the court awarded the station the 92.9 frequency, but the Media Council challenged the decision. The appeals court decision is final.
